Subnautica
Gamers Hideout score: 9.5

“Subnautica” is and open-world, ocean, sandbox, survival game, based on an alien planet. It begins after your terraforming ship has crashed on this planet, and you have escaped from your ship in a life-pod.

The game is set in the late 22nd century when humans are colonising space and sending colonisation ships out on terraforming missions. Your ship “The Aurora” is one of these ships, but it is hit by a mysterious pulse while entering the planet's atmosphere. An escape pod is launched carrying a unconcious body, which is you.

There are many things to do and see in Subnautica, such as building submarines and catching and cooking food in order to survive. You can also build bases and explore the vast, wide, deep, dark ocean of this alien planet. Beware!  This ocean isn’t all friendly as it is full of hungry preditors (such as the lure-less anglerfish).

This game's graphics are totally mesmerizing. Created with dreamy visual neon coloured palets, its almost hypnotic spectacular ocean enviroment, filled with bright sea-life, draws you in.  I was instantly hooked to the game because of the bright colours.

The game plays very well and is undoubfuly the best I have played in an alpha staged game. The game already has next to no bugs in it, which is good for an alpha staged game as you would think it would be riddled with them. The swimming in the game is very smooth and fluent, just as it needs to be because 99% of your time is spent swimming. The 1% of time spent walking is enjoyable too, even though this ability is used very ltittle.

The game is very demanding in RAM usage as you need more than 4gb so you can't really play it on any old computer or laptop but they may compress it soon hopefully.

The audio is great. Very "boombing" and marine-like but with a hint of alienated sound. The audio is almost hollywood movie quality and the Crew arn't hiding the fact that they used a lot of their budget on it.

The game is definetly worth the money. It is amazing and is full of enough potential to be the next massive thing if they carry on the way they are heading and develop it to its full potential. This game is a MUST buy and you will not regret it.
